To understand how Spark connects to the referral cycle within your agency, let's start at the beginning:
First, a patient meets the required standards and a qualified person decides to refer them from their office/facility to a post-acute care facility.
- In Referrals, this person is the Referring Person and the office/facility is the Referring Facility.
Next, a qualified person must sign the order validating that the patient meets the standards for Post-Acute Care services.
- In Referrals, this is the Primary Physician. The Referring Person and the Primary Physician are often the same person, but they do not have to be!
Then, this order is routed to a person whose responsibility is to obtain the Post-Acute Care services for the patient.
- In Accounts, this person can be designated in the Primary Referring Person field. The Referring Person (from Referrals) and the Primary Referring Person (from Accounts) could be the same person, but they do not have to be. The Primary Referring Person can be anyone! You get to decide.
We believe that the Primary Referring Person is your most valued contact, because they are the individual that connects the referrals to an agency. Usually, each physician has a unique set of people involved in the administration of their referrals, so knowing that “primary responsible person” is vital to success!
A core principal of PlayMaker is that only Contacts, not Accounts, can provide referrals. Therefore, best practice is to provide the Primary Physician, Referring Facility, and Referring Person on each referral so that our users can identify:
- where their referrals are coming from (Referring Facility)
- who sent the order (Referring Person)
- who signed the order (Primary Physician)
- and the responsible party (Primary Referring Person)
